Dr. Fife completed a Family Medicine residency at the University of Texas, Southwestern in Dallas followed by a two-year Fellowship in Environmental and Undersea Medicine at Duke University. Until 2013 she was a Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston where she initiated the Memorial Hermann Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine and the Lymphedema Center. She is a Professor of Geriatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and the Chief Medical Officer of Intellicure, LLC., a health information technology company, and Executive Director of the US Wound Registry. Between 1993 and 2011, she participated in the Terrestrial and Zero-G Advanced Life Support Pilot Study to develop ACLS Protocols for the International Space Station (ISS) using KC 135 Weightlessness Exposures, was a Special Consultant to the NASA, JSC Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, chaired the 2011 NASA Decompression Sickness (DCS) Oversight Committee, and was a co-investigator of the NASA ISL oxygen prebreathe protocol which developed the EVA protocols used to construct the ISS. In conjunction with Dr. Eva Sevick, she developed real time lymphatic imaging, identifying the previously unknown connection between the CSF and the lymphatics, identified the pathophysiological process responsible for microgravity related facial edema, and demonstrated the relationship between lymphedema and chronic wounds. Current research is focused on the use of real-world data for comparative effectiveness studies in wound management. She has authored more than 100 peer reviewed articles and book chapters and edited 3 textbooks including Women and Pressure, Flying and Diving.
