Prof. Stephen Black specializes in varicose veins (VV), VV surgery, non-surgical treatment of VV, endovascular surgery, and endovenous laser ablation. He is an expert in complex venous conditions such as pelvic congestion syndrome, DVT, and MTS. He earned his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand Faculty of Health Sciences, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1998. He obtained an MD in simulation-based training from Imperial College London and completed his higher surgical training with placements at St. Thomas', St. George's, and St. Mary’s Hospitals, London. In 2011, he was awarded the Fellowship of the European Board of Vascular Surgery.
Prof. Black co-founded the UK Vein Clinic, dedicated to the treatment of VV using modern, minimally invasive treatment methods that produce world-class outcomes. Dedicated to post-graduate medical education, Prof. Black holds prominent positions in several vascular surgery organizations serving on the committee for the EVF HOW and as programme director for the annual CX Symposium, and as a reviewer for the British Journal of Surgery, the EJVES, and Phlebology. He is active in clinical research, has authored >50 publications, and has been an invited lecturer at >50 national and international congresses. Prof. Black has received numerous awards for research and teaching.
