Dr. Mercier is a graduate of McGill university medical school and became a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with training at McGill, Vanderbilt, University of Pennsylvania, NYU and University of Montreal.
He practiced plastic surgery at St Luc university hospital in Montreal for 18 years. Subsequently started a practice in surgical phlebology in 1995, and has been exclusively doing that ever since.
He was one of the innovators of the use of tumescent anesthesia for surgery of varicose veins, was the first to introduce endovenous thermal ablation techniques in Canada and has extensive experience in phlebectomy. He has given numerous talks in the past at the Canadian society and American college of phlebology meetings.
