I’m on the faculty of the Departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Vanderbilt School of Medicine, and am an adjunct faculty member at Meharry Medical College. I’m also a founding faculty member of the Vanderbilt Health Coaching Program, an accredited program aimed at teaching health behavior change skills to medical professionals from throughout the United States.
I’m a practicing Health, Rehabilitation & Performance Psychologist privileged to be my 28th year treating patients at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. My work focuses on helping patients better manage their chronic medical disorders as well as their emotional responses to those disorders.
I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, San Diego with a specialization in Health Psychology. I then completed a 1-year Clinical Health Psychology Internship and a 2-year Postdoc in Clinical & Corporate Health Psychology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I then stayed on to join the faculty.
I’m published in such journals as The Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, The American Journal of Health Promotion, The Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Perception and Motor Skills, Annals of Behavioral Medicine, Psychology and Health, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, and Global Advances in Health and Medicine. I’ve also co-authored a book chapter focused on theories and strategies for increasing patient motivation and promoting treatment adherence.
